Seminar Two: Clinical Judgment in Absorption, Immune System, Autonomic Nervous System, and Endocrine System

Stress Evaluation and Related Nutritional Syndromes
Recognition of specific enzyme deficiencies, related nutritional syndromes, and locating signs of stress are vital to helping your patients. You will be able to follow the development of food enzyme deficiencies beginning with the symptoms of indigestion. We will chart deviations from homeostasis and correlate these deviations with specific nutritional recommendations. This seminar will review diet, digestion, and bowel elimination taught in Seminar One and go on to teach absorption, the autonomic nervous system, the immune system, and the endocrine system. Proper diet and digestion are integral to the functioning of these three systems.
24-hour Urinalysis
Analyzing urine for diagnostic purposes has been practiced for centuries and represents one of the oldest laboratory procedures used for diagnosis. Urine composition reflects a patient's ability to maintain nutritional and metabolic homeostasis. A 24-hour urinalysis is more comprehensive than the random sample taken in the doctor's office because a 24-hour sample reveals how the body handles dietary intake throughout the entire day and night - not just a few hours. The interpretation of the 24-hour urinalysis allows you, as the practitioner, to objectively determine dietary stress and digestive problems.
Practicum and Final Examination
This seminar provides a thorough review emphasizing case management and how to develop a logical and systematic program for patients based on findings from each section of the program, specifically the patient's history, physical examination, and laboratory tests. You will be able to reveal what stressors are affecting the patient, what the patient has a difficult time digesting, what organs are nutritionally stressed, what the body is having a hard time detoxifying and eliminating, and what dietary and lifestyle changes are necessary.
The conclusion of this seminar is a two-part, open-book examination on Sunday designed to demonstrate the student's competency in the material that has been learned. Part One is a fill-in-the-blank, true/false exam. Part Two is a patient analysis for two provided cases. After successfully passing the exam, the student will graduate from the Food Enzyme Institute and will be designated a diploma as a Digestive Health Professional.
